4 Signs It’s Time To Move Out Of Your Empty Nest

Have you been wandering around an empty home? The kids have moved on and when this happens your family home can feel a little too large and it can start to seem like an echo chamber. You might grow excited about the possibility of using those new spare rooms in exciting ways. Or, you could be itching to move on and take your life onto the next chapter. Here are a few signs to watch out for that show you are ready or perhaps should leave your old home and move on.

You’re Eager To Free Up Some Money

One sign that you should be moving forward with a house move is that you want to free up some cash. If you have big plans for your retirement like going around the world, or perhaps visiting an exotic location in luxury style, then you definitely need some extra money in hand. Selling your home will allow you to do this and potentially head on that trip across Europe that you always hoped for. By selling your home you can quickly free up hundreds of thousands in money, particularly if you choose to move to a smaller place or even rent from now on. Some people will even cut the costs by not buying another home and instead living the rest of their life in an RV. It sounds crazy but it can be quite freeing.

You Hate The Climb

Do you dread traveling up the stairs at the end of the day? If so, then there’s a good chance that the stairs are actually serious damaging your joints. If that’s the case, then you need to make sure that you consider purchasing a property without stairs. You should consider purchasing either a bungalow or an apartment with a lift. That way, you can make sure that you won’t be killing your legs every time you need to say goodnight. Don’t worry if the climb upstairs now feels like trudging up a mountain. At some point or another, everyone starts to notice this change.

You Feel Lonely

If the kids have moved on, it’s possible that you are feeling quite lonely. If that’s the case, it could definitely be time to think about moving to a retirement village like Riddle Village. Places like this are perfect because you’ll have a brilliant chance to socialize and interact with people like you every day. You can form strong friendships, bonds, relationships and basically live your best life.

If this sounds like a fantastic possibility, you definitely want to make sure that you start looking for the perfect retirement spot for you.

The Bills Are Too High

Finally, it’s possible that the bills for your current home are simply too high for what you will be living on during retirement. If that’s the case, you need to make sure that you start looking at smaller places sooner rather than later. This will certainly make finances during retirement a lot easier.

We hope you find this advice helpful when deciding whether this is the right choice for you.

  1. Some do want to stay in their home, and as long as they are a couple, it may work out OK, but often after one spouse is no longer alive it can be hard to stay, financially and also too much emptiness. Lots to consider!
