Selling Your Home? Don’t Make These Mistakes

When it comes to selling your home it is important that you make it as smooth sailing as possible. There are some common mistakes that could end up costing you the sale of your home. Make sure the price you are wanting isn’t too high, this is something that could put buyers off before they have even seen your home.

Visible Clutter

When it comes to people viewing your property you want it to look the best it possibly can. This is not only to serve as being house proud but also so that people want to put offers in to buy your home. If people come around and there is visible clutter filling every possible space then this could put them off from buying. The problem you have here is that buyers need to envision their own belongings filling a home, remember you are selling the space and the four walls nothing else. Another issue if you don’t clear out the space is that buyers won’t be able to see exactly that, they won’t know how much space and storage they have to play with if they bought your property.

It may seem like a big job but it doesn’t have to be, you can do this task over time to take some of the pressure off. If you go to each room and sort out what you want to pack away that you don’t need until the move then this will eradicate some of the clutter. It may be a good idea to look into a storage unit to look after your boxes until you’ve moved. Take a look at self storage locations near you to find the best one.

Broken Parts

Another mistake you don’t want to be making is leaving your home in a state of disrepair. Buyers will very rarely put an offer on a house that needs extensive repairs carried out, this is because they don’t want to live in a fixer-upper. Ensure that all repairs on your to-do list are completed before opening up your home to potential buyers. These could be small repairs such as holes in the walls, to large repairs such as a leaky roof for example. If there is anything that needs to be repaired but you haven’t got around to then make sure the potential buyers are aware of this.

Messy Garden

Finally, one last thing to be wary of is the garden and exterior of your property. If this looks messy then it may put buyers off before they have even entered your home. Ensure that there are no weeds in sight and the grass is neat and tidy. You should also make sure that the exterior isn’t looking too shabby, give it a quick paint job if necessary. If you don’t have time for this yourself then think about hiring a landscape gardener to sort it out for you.

We hope this helps you understand the things you need to do to ensure a nice, easy, quick house sale.
