Today’s prompt for Just Jot It January is “sane”. When I hear the word sane, I don’t think of sanity, I think of art. In particular, I think of great street art. Beautiful art that is created for everyone to enjoy. Art for the hood, for the neighborhoods that don’t have museums or the money to go to one. Art that says hey I matter and I was here. I was alive on this earth and I created beauty out of ugliness.
When I was young I visited New York City for the first time and saw the work of Sane and lots of other great artists. I was fascinated by this art that was everywhere for everyone to see. This wasn’t pretentious art in a frame hanging on someone’s wall, this was the people’s art on a train traveling all over the city.
Here is a video of Sane Smith’s work. The song on the video is explicit so if you have an issue you may want to watch it without sound.
Video was blocked on copyright grounds – hate when that happens. Would have liked to see it and his graffiti art.
I love street art and used to do it and collect books on it in the 80’s and 90’s!
