Tips for an Easy to Clean Home with Pets

There’s no beating around the bush: as time goes on and you get older, some household tasks are just not as easy to do anymore. It can be hard to deep clean the house and put all your energy into making everything spotless especially if you have pets. But, there’s an easy solution. With a few home improvements, your house will be so much easier to maintain, and you can focus your time on doing what you love.

Flooring

It’s the first thing to get dirty and the easiest to spot. If you’ve had carpet for years that’s stained and difficult to maintain, consider replacing that old carpeting with a different flooring that’s more easily kept and less noticeable when dirty. For example, dark-stained hardwood floors look great and are much more easily maintained than carpet. Other options include stained concrete with a protective seal and laminate in a wood-like style are also great options if you have pets.

Windows

Dusting and cleaning the windows constantly can be a pain. Getting window replacements that make maintenance easier will free up your time to do the things you love. Switching out single hung for double-hung windows can drastically reduce the time spent cleaning your windows, as well as allow you to easily clean the exterior. Switching out the materials as well as the type of blinds of covering you use can cut down on cleaning time and frequency as well. Replacing old blinds with something like cellular shades will stop all that tedious dusting while looking cleaner for longer.

Carpet Tiles

Hear me out: though that large Persian rug in your living room is no doubt stunning, it is a hassle to keep clean. Consider switching out large area rugs for carpet tiles. Not only can you easily mix and match tiles to create an interesting look in your home, but they’re just as easy to replace and clean. If a tile gets dirty or stained from a pet accident, you can simply pull it out and wash or replace it rather than sitting on your hands and knees trying to scrub at a stain that will never come out.

Storage

Sounds silly, but make sure your storage is both easily accessible and where it’s needed. For example, if you have a habit of kicking your shoes off right as you walk in the door, have a shoe rack or something similar off to the side. Or, in your office, keep a cup or some other organizational tool to store your pencils, pens, or other writing utensils. Make sure you don’t have to stoop or go out of your way to utilize your storage solutions.  Keep everything within hands reach, as otherwise, your storage will go unused.

Keeping a neat and tidy home as you get older can become a challenge especially if you have pets. However, with these simple switches, you won’t have to spend all day keeping your house neat and tidy. Instead, you can focus on the things you love to do and spend more time with family, friends, loved ones, and even your pets. Saving time on cleaning will earn you more time to enjoy life.
