As you approach your 50s, there’s nothing that says you must conform to what everyone else your age is doing. There is still much that you haven’t seen or done in the world, but if you’re wondering what to do next, help is at hand.
The following are some radical life changes you could make. They might be things you’ve probably never considered doing or examples that you probably didn’t feel was a good idea in your 20s, 30s, or 40s. Check out these exciting and inspirational ideas:
1. Learn a New Language
You might be in your 50s, but that doesn’t mean you can’t learn a new language. You’re somewhat spoilt for choice with an estimated 6,500 different languages spoken each day! You could learn to speak French, Spanish, or something more exotic like Indonesian.
These days, it’s easy to learn a language as you can do so via smartphone apps or COVID-19-safe remote virtual learning groups with other language students. Who knows, you may even decide to move to the country whose language you are learning!
2. Get a Job in a Male-Dominated Industry
If you fancy something more challenging, have a thick skin and aren’t anybody’s fool, you could always have a career change and move into a more male-dominated industry to become a female pioneer of change.
For example, you could side-step into a construction career, get a construction management degree, and be in charge of tomorrow’s exciting new skyscraper and building projects. Or, you could move into an industry like motorsport, engineering, or dentistry.
3. Buy a Fast Sports Car
You might have always had a passing interest in automobiles but ended up sticking with ‘sensible’ family vehicles or small compact cars if you live in an inner-city area. However, what if you’ve got a real need for speed that’s just waiting to get unleashed?
If you’ve got an empty nest, there’s no reason why you must stick to buying sensible cars. Go out and buy something ridiculously fast, like a Porsche 911 GT3 or a Shelby GT500, and enjoy the extra smiles per miles that your new car gives you!
4. Go Around the World in 80 Days
Okay, so you might not be Jules Verne, but that doesn’t mean you can’t embark on an exciting round-the-world trip in 80 days. You could launch a whistle-stop tour of various exciting international destinations and experience what the world has to offer.
Of course, it’s something you can’t do at the moment due to COVID-19. However, nothing is stopping you from researching where you want to go and putting plans in place for an itinerary in the not-so-distant future.
5. Go Skinny Dipping
Lastly, one of life’s great feelings is going for a swim on a hot summer’s day and enjoying the weather, the cooling effects of the water on your body, and generally having fun. But have you ever attempted to go skinny dipping?
Even if you try it just once, it can feel incredibly liberating, exhilarating, and you might even meet like-minded people that could become new life-long friends.
